The Feeding Texas Network announces 2025 state legislative priorities

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) – Feeding Texas is calling on elected officials to support policy solutions that prevent hunger and address the root causes of food insecurity as bills begin to be introduced.

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) recently released its annual food security survey. Feeding Texas says the report shows Texas has the second highest food insecurity in the country at 16.9%.

Feeding Texas said this year it is promoting policy solutions to prevent hunger and address its causes and consequences. These legislative priorities are supported by the network of twenty food banks, serving all 254 counties in Texas. to call to action

The first part of Feeding Texas’ shared legislative agenda focuses on expanding access to food and improving health outcomes, calling on lawmakers to:

  • Eliminate the SNAP application backlog and increase efficiency
  • Fight child hunger during the summer
  • Improve health outcomes and reduce state health care costs
  • Modernize the eligibility system
  • Strengthen our local food systems
  • Increase access to healthcare
  • Ensure housing affordability
  • Improve financial security

The second part of Feeding Texas’ legislative agenda focuses on addressing the root causes of hunger.
