2-year-old airlifted to hospital after accidental shooting in Overton area

SMITH COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) – A 2-year-old was injured in an accidental shooting in the Overton area of Smith County.

According to Smith County Sheriff Larry Smith, calls came into the sheriff’s office around noon from the Overton Police Department about a toddler injured in an accidental shooting on the Smith County side of the Overton area.

Smith says the child was transported to a Shreveport hospital in stable condition and is currently undergoing surgery.

The child was taken to the Overton Fire Department after the shooting. Overton Police Chief Bryan Pool says a call came in from OFD about the incident around 11:48 a.m

Sheriff’s Department investigators are awaiting a warrant to begin processing the scene.
