AMC warns moviegoers who see ‘Wicked’

(Gray News) – AMC is warning moviegoers not to sing along to “Wicked.”

The warning comes in a 30-second spot shown before the film, which is released this weekend.

“At AMC Theaters, silence is worth its weight in gold. No talking. No texting. No singing. No whining. No flirting. And absolutely no swear words. Enjoy the magic of movies,” the clip says.

A spokesperson for the AMC told the newspaper this IndyStar that the policy is nothing new, but the rules are often enforced before a specific movie — in this case, “Wicked.”

The purpose of the policy is to prevent disruption and allow all guests to hear the movie clearly.

Fans shown an advanced screening of “Wicked” quickly noticed the warning, and most applauded the lines.

“I hated the idea that my first time doing this would be ruined by loud sing-along days leading up to the screening… I just wanted to be able to take it all in the first time,” said one Reddit user. wrote in a comment.

Enforcement of the policy may vary from location to location.
