Andrew Zimmern was shocked at how delicious this McDonald’s Sandwich is

The chef calls it ‘the best airport breakfast’.

Chief Andreas Zimmern just joined the growing fanbase of a returning one McDonald’s breakfast favorite. The steak, egg and cheese bagel – discontinued in 2020 –the way back quietly to select McDonald’s locations in early September.

Known for reviving discontinued menu items, McDonald’s has brought back the savory life breakfast sandwich to much excitement. The Food Network personality discovered it while navigating a busy airport early one morning. “I saw a giant sign that said the bagel steak, egg and cheese are back. So I thought, let’s give it a try,” Zimmern explained in an Instagram video.

Zimmern unwrapped the sandwich and broke it into pieces. The sandwich consists of a steak patty, folded egg, American cheese, grilled onionsand McDonald’s signature breakfast sauce on a bagel. Upon inspection, Zimmern noted, “It looks like a pretty good breakfast sandwich,” but tempered expectations with a disclaimer: “I know every ingredient has been processed here, it’s non-organic and not healthy.”

But then came the first bite. To his surprise, the host of “Bizarre Foods: Delicious Destinations called it “probably the best breakfast sandwich available at the airport.” Zimmern praised its “meaty” flavor, spice, warmth and structural integrity, adding, “It eats well, it holds together.”

Zimmern fans agree

Zimmern’s glowing review struck a chord with his followers. One commenter declared the steak, egg, and cheese bagel the “best breakfast sandwich by far.” Another suggested a pro tip: swap the folded egg for a fresh round egg. The sandwich even earned a spot as Zimmern’s treat of the week, as he admitted he was “baffled” by its taste.

While we’re surprised that a McDonald’s menu item received so much praise from a celebrity chef, it does beg the question: which McDonald’s dish will get the upper hand from a Food Network star next?
