Pamela Hayden, the voice actress of Milhouse Van Houten on The Simpsons, has announced her retirement after 35 years. Hayden, 70, is stepping down so she can pursue other creative projects of interest at this point in her career. Her final appearance will be in the upcoming episode titled Treehouse of Horror Presents: Simpsons Wicked This Way Comes, which airs on November 24. According to NBC, Hayden stated in a press release: “The time has come for me to hang up my phone. microphone, but how do I say goodbye to The Simpsons? Not easy.”

Hayden has been with The Simpsons since the show’s first episode in 1989, providing the voices for Milhouse, Jimbo Jones, Rod Flanders and Lisa’s boyfriend, Janey Powell. She has contributed her voice to approximately 700 episodes of the series.

The character Milhouse, with blue hair and large glasses, is Bart Simpson’s best friend and is now a pop icon. The character was created so that Bart would have someone to talk to during school scenes and was named after former US President Richard Nixon.

In her retirement announcement, Hayden said she has a lot of affection for Milhouse, adding, “What I love about Milhouse is that he constantly gets knocked down, but he keeps getting back up.”

Over the years, Milhouse was portrayed in various humorous situations related to his socially inept personality and loyalty to Bart.

According to The New York Times, Matt Groening, the creator of The Simpsons, said in a statement: “Pamela gave us a lot of laughs with Milhouse, the unfortunate kid with the biggest nose in Springfield. She made Milhouse hilarious and real, and we will miss her.” The show’s executive producer, James L. Brooks, also said she was gifted with talent and that her absence will be felt by the entire cast and crew of the Simpsons -community.

Although The Simpsons is anticipating this change, Fox has stated that they will be in the process of recasting Hayden’s characters. At this point, it’s still unclear what Milhouse and the other characters she lent her voice to will do next.
