Police appeal for information after fire started on Shrewsbury Canal towpath which extended to fences

The incident took place on the towpath behind Comet Drive in Ditherington, Shrewsburyon Sunday, November 17 at approximately 4:15 p.m.

Officers are now asking for information about the incident, or for anyone who may have seen anything to contact them.

On social media, Shropshire Police said: “We are appealing for information following the arson in Shrewsbury on Sunday 17 November. At around 4.15pm a fire broke out on the canal towpath behind Comet Drive, Ditherington, causing significant damage to the rear gates of two properties.

“Officers are asking anyone to come forward who may have witnessed the start of the fire or anyone who has information that could assist the investigation.

“Alternatively, if you have information but don’t feel comfortable talking to police, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers. It’s 100 percent anonymous, they never ask for your name and they can’t find out your calling or IP address. you can contact them online or by calling 0800 555 111.”
