Cause of death confirmed for Hannah Kobayashi’s father, who died two weeks after his daughter’s disappearance

Ryan Kobayashi was among the family members who traveled to Los Angeles to search for his missing daughter

Ryan Kobayashi, the father of missing Hawaiian woman Hannah Kobayashi died by suicide, according to the LA County Medical Examiner. He was 58.

His cause of death was multiple blunt force trauma injuries, according to police medical examination report rated by PEOPLE. The place of his death was listed as a parking lot.

Officials stated that Ryan, who traveled to Los Angeles to look for his daughter, died in a parking lot near Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Sunday, November 24, two weeks after Hannah went missing.

A spokesperson previously told PEOPLE that law enforcement was called to the area for “an apparent suicide.”

Speaking to PEOPLE on Monday, November 25, Hannah’s aunt and Ryan’s former sister-in-law said the family believed he was having a mental health emergency.

“We have searched tirelesslysaid Larie Pidgeon, 45. “I think it just became so overwhelming for him as he was driving through the streets, going to Skid Row and seeing where his daughter could have possibly ended up.”

She added that the family wanted to dispel any rumors that he had anything to do with his daughter’s disappearance and said they did not believe he had been lured to his death.

In one GoFundMe set up for Li, Ryan’s fiancée, niece Emi Ko wrote: “He has lived his absolute worst nightmare since Hannah’s disappearance, and now, with his passing, our family is struggling with unimaginable grief.”

Pidgeon previously told PEOPLE that 30-year-old Hannah left Maui on Nov. 8 and was supposed to catch a connecting flight to New York City at LAX, but missed it due to her tight layover.

She said Hannah contacted another aunt, Geordan Montalvo, and told her she had missed her flight and was trying to rebook.

The family said they confirmed Hannah’s sightings at the airport the next day, but began receiving reports concerning messages from her on November 11.

Hannah’s last pinned location was at LAX on November 11 around 4pm local time, Pidgeon told PEOPLE. That day the family received one confirmed sighting of Hannah and an unidentified person boarding the train, but she has not been seen since she reportedly emerged from Pico Station.

Following Ryan’s death, Pidgeon told PEOPLE that the family will continue to search for Hannah. “We’re still here,” she said. “We are a family doing the best we can right now, with two tragedies.”
