Teacher accused of abusing toddlers sparks outrage among parents, investigation

SAN ANTONIO – A teacher at a Montessori preschool in Boerne was accused of assaulting three two-year-olds in his classroom.

We have an exclusive interview with the family of one of those toddlers.

“Three incidents happened in one day, and I’m sorry, but if it happens in one day, it’s happened before, and why wasn’t it noticed before?” said the parent of one of the toddlers.

The parents of one of the toddlers allegedly attacked on video declined to speak on camera.

“Another child brought it to the attention of a mother. The mother brought it to the attention of the school. Then the school looked into that incident and saw the other incidents,” they said.

They say they made multiple attempts to view surveillance footage of Alfredo Xavier Marmolejo allegedly aggressively grabbing one of the toddlers by the arm, then dragging her and slamming her into a chair.

The video also allegedly shows Marmolejo hitting another toddler on the side of the head, causing him to fall, and then hitting him again on the back of the head.

‘It’s been over a week. She said it could take a few days, maybe a week or two, depending on the number of kids in the said photo, to get all the permissions, or whatever. But we haven’t heard anything,” they said.

The affidavit states that Marmolejo claimed he was having problems at home, was stressed by supervisors at school and said his emotions got the better of him.

“Bad day or not, they’re not your kids. Parents bring their children to daycare and assume that they are in safe hands. And if he had a bad day, and that’s the way he deals with a bad day, he should never have gone to work,” the toddler’s grandmother said.

The toddler’s grandmother also did not want to be on camera, but did not want to remain silent either.

“I want to ask: How much background check did they do? Secondly, can we send her back safely, or should we look for another daycare to take her to,” she said.

The Excelling Montessori Preschool was inspected a day after the alleged abuse, but no violations were found.

The preschool was cited last November for allowing children to play outside in rainwater in cold temperatures, which is considered a high-risk Texas Health and Human Services case.

Marmolejo has posted bail and should be released soon. However, the family believes that he should remain behind bars until a full investigation is conducted and the parents are informed of the entire situation.
