Migrant attacks NYPD officers who intervene in street fights: sources

A 33-year-old migrant from Mexico was arrested for attacking two NYPD officers who tried to handcuff him before a street fight in Queens, law enforcement sources said.

Mauricio David Sosa had punched another 33-year-old man in the face during a collision on Gleane Street near Baxter Avenue in Elmhurst around midnight Tuesday when officers responded to the scene, authorities and sources said.

When police tried to arrest Sosa, he turned on them, punching one in the face and kicking the other in the abdomen, police said.

Sosa was arrested and charged with two counts of assault — for hitting the officers — as well as a misdemeanor count of assault for the first attack, and resisting arrest, police said.

Both officers refused medical attention due to their injuries.

Sosa had repeatedly tried to enter the U.S. through the southern border, with the fourth time being the charm, sources told The Post.

He was stopped in his first three attempts – and each time he opted for voluntary removal from the country, although the timeline was not clear, the sources said.

Sosa, who currently lives in Jersey City, has no prior arrests in the Big Apple, police said.
