Justice Secretary Speaks on Bongbong Marcos & Sara Duterte Issue

BONGBONG MARCOS – The Department of Justice (DOJ) said the President cannot suspend Vice Pres. Sara Duterte despite her remarks.

Countless Filipinos were surprised by the recent statements of Vice Pres. Duterte against Pres. Marcos. The two (2) politicians were a tandem in the 2022 Elections but the ties between them has turned sour.

The Filipinos noticed the souring relationship between Marcos and Duterte when the latter assumed from being the secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd). She also left the Cabinet of Marcos Jr.

Duterte has been throwing tirades against Marcos Jr. as well. Previously, Duterte accused Marcos Jr. or allegedly not knowing how to be a president. She also rated him with “one” when asked to rate his governance in a scale of 1-10 with 10 as the highest.

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte also said that she and Pres. Bongbong Marcos didn’t really start as friends. According to her, her friend is Senator Imee Marcos and she and Marcos Jr. only talked about the campaign and work.

However, many Filipinos were also surprised when Vice Pres. Duterte claims she told Sen. Imee Marcos that she will exhume the body of Marcos Sr. and throw it into the West Philippine Sea if the supposed attacks against her don’t stop. The Senator said she chose to move on as she does not want a conflict with anyone.

However, the latest statements of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte earned a reaction from Pres. Bongbong Marcos. The Vice President claims that her final wish includes the death of the President, his wife, and his cousin, House Speaker Martin Romualdez if an alleged plot against her succeeds.

The National Bureau of Investigation issued a subpoena for Vice Pres. Duterte. However, Vice Pres. Duterte requested for the rescheduling of the summons over her remarks against Marcos Jr. The Department of Justice or DOJ also said it will investigate the matter.

Amid the remarks, DOJ Secretary Jesse Andres said that Pres. Bongbong Marcos cannot suspend Vice Pres. Sarah Duterte. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Andres stressed that only the Ombudsman can suspend the second highest official in the government.

The DOJ Sec. Andres said that Pres. Bongbong Marcos can only suspend local government executives. However, if proven guilty on the charges filed against her by the NBI, Duterte can face disqualification from public office.

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte said the government allegedly wants to access her properties and assets. According to her, they will really find a way to file a case against her over her remarks.
