The Jatiya Nagorik Committee staged a protest at the Raju Sculpture of Dhaka University on Wednesday evening, condemning the “attempted murder” of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement founders Hasnat Abdullah and Sarjis Alam.

The two were reportedly the target of a deliberate run-over incident while returning from Chattogram yesterday (November 27).

Students from various residential complexes of Dhaka University joined the protest and expressed solidarity against the attack.

Akthar Hossen, member of the committee and former secretary of Ducsu’s social services, made four main demands during the demonstration.

The demands are to free members of the Bengali Hindu community from the influence of extremist Hinduism, arrest and prosecute those responsible for creating instability in the country, identify and appropriately punish those involved in the violation of Hindu human rights over the past 15 years, and implementing effective measures. to ensure the safety and dignity of minority communities.

“There is a conspiracy against Bangladesh. Attempts are being made to create a divide between Hindus and Muslims. But the people of Bangladesh have shown that they will not fall into such traps. We, Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Christians and indigenous communities, “are ready to sacrifice our lives to protect our country,” Akhtar said.

Coordinator Abdul Hannan Masud also addressed the gathering and said, “The conspirators believe that by targeting Hasnat and Sarjis, they can undermine Bangladesh’s sovereignty. But from secretaries to workers, every citizen of this country is a warrior. No one will challenge the dominance of Delhi or any form of fascism. Everyone is willing to give their lives for this country.”
