Gujarat: Man dies by suicide in Bhavnagar after being cheated of Rs 40 lakh in loan fraud

A man in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, died by suicide after he was allegedly cheated of Rs 40 lakh by two persons who promised to give him a large bank loan. The man, identified as Praveen, left a suicide note and a video naming four people responsible for his death.

Praveen, who was into construction of houses, had reportedly been struggling with mounting debts after borrowing money to pay the agents who secured him a loan worth crores from Union Bank.

According to his suicide note and video, the officers, identified as Raju Solanki and Mehul Makwana, had gained his trust over the past year. They convinced him to pay Rs 40 lakh in installments, claiming that this was necessary to facilitate loan approval.

Praveen’s financial problems worsened when he borrowed money from friends and relatives at high interest rates to meet the officers’ demands. Despite repeated assurances that the loan would be processed, it never materialized and the lenders he had borrowed from began pressuring him for repayment.

In the video recorded before his death, Praveen expressed his anguish saying, “I don’t want to die but I am helpless. I was cheated by people who promised me a loan and took Rs 40 lakh. Now they claim that they can do that.” return only Rs 20 lakh and say the rest has been spent.”

He further appealed for justice for his family and urged authorities to punish the accused and ensure that his wife and son receive the money owed. He also named a woman who allegedly cheated him of Rs 5 lakh.

After receiving the complaint, Praveen’s wife approached the Ghogha Road police station. The police have registered a case against the two constables, Raju Solanki and Mehul Makwana, and two moneylenders, Gautam Meer and Deepak Garagewala.

An investigating officer at Ghogha Road police station said, “We have retrieved the suicide note and the video in which Praveen mentions that he gave Rs 40 lakh to Raju Solanki and Mehul Makwana for a loan that was never approved. He also mentions the two lenders who put pressure on him. for refund. An investigation is underway to verify all claims and ensure justice is served.”
