Lincoln man charged with fifth DUI after vehicle crashes into ball field fence

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – A Lincoln man was charged with a fifth DUI after a vehicle crashed into a ball field fence Monday.

Lincoln Police received a call about an ongoing disturbance at 2:45 p.m. A man had driven his vehicle into the fencing at Zoetis Ballfield on the west side of the field.

According to a witness, 53-year-old Ricky Martinez was seen driving around the area on the west side of the field before driving into the tree line and then back through the tall grass and into the fence.

When the window was rolled down, officers said they could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from Martinez. Martinez reportedly had slurred speech and bloodshot, watery eyes.

Inside the crashed vehicle, officers discovered a sandwich bag filled with approximately 24 empty shooting bottles.

According to LPD, Martinez chose not to comply with officers’ requests and was later taken to the Lancaster County Jail for further investigation. At 4:32 PM Martinez blew a .277 BAC.

According to court documents, it was later determined that Martinez had his driver’s license revoked for 15 years due to previous DUIs. Martinez was previously convicted of four previous DUIs and will not be eligible for license reinstatement until February 10, 2042.

Martinez was charged with driving under the influence, driving with a revoked license and tampering with a lock.

Martinez’s bond was set at 10% of $150,000. Martinez’s next hearing is scheduled for January 2, 2025.
