Two charged after shots fired during chase with Independence Police

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (KCTV) – Two people have been charged after he allegedly shot at Independence Police Department patrol vehicles during a high-speed chase.

Jackson County, Missouri, District Court documents filed on Tuesday, November 26, show that Raymond E. Geultzau, 26, of Lee’s Summit, and Harley E. Moore, 25, of Independence, have been charged in connection with a chase with law enforcement officers in which shots were fired .

A probable cause statement filed by the Independence Police revealed that on November 6 around 11:55 p.m., law enforcement officers near Truman Rd. and River Boulevard. saw a silver 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 with no license plates.

When police attempted to stop the driver, later identified as Geultzau, he sped away while running through stop signs in an attempt to elude law enforcement. Due to the high speed and erratic driving, the pursuit was called off by the Independence Police a short time later.

When the suspect vehicle was spotted again by law enforcement, they said another pursuit ensued. This time, however, Geultzau allegedly fired several shots at officers. After an officer’s cruiser was struck by gunfire near 17th and S. Trail Ridge Dr., the pickup that turned out to be stolen went off-road through multiple backyards.

Investigators noted that Geultzau’s vehicle eventually crashed into an embankment in the side yard of a home. When he got out of the car, he was stopped by the police. The vehicle’s passenger, Moore, was also arrested and taken into custody.

Independence Police indicated a search of the vehicle revealed drug paraphernalia and a Remington pump-action rifle. Geultzau was charged with two counts of armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, assault, unlawful possession of a firearm and aggravated fleeing a stop.

If convicted, Geultzau could face a maximum of 77 years in prison and a fine of up to $20,000. A warrant has been issued for his arrest with bail set at just $100,000. Moore faces up to 70 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. A warrant has also been issued for his arrest with a $100,000 cash bond.

As of Friday, November 29, Geultzau and Moore appear to no longer be behind bars. No further information has been released.
