Gregg Wallace: New questions for the BBC over claims of misconduct

Mir has said she complained to the BBC about Gregg Wallace’s comments on the set of the cooking show.

In an internal email, BBC director Kate Phillips, who now heads unscripted programs for the corporation, said his behavior on set was “unacceptable and cannot continue”.

She added that she would ensure she was “immediately informed” if any further allegations were made against him.

Mir later sent an email that was copied to Phillips, saying: “This should not happen again to another woman.”

Separately, the Observer says a letter containing multiple claims of inappropriate behavior by Gregg Wallace was sent to the BBC in 2022 but did not lead to further investigation at the time.

On Thursday, MasterChef’s production company Banijay UK said Wallace would step away from presenting the show while allegations of historical misconduct were investigated.

The 60-year-old is “committed to fully cooperating throughout the process,” Banijay added.

It came after BBC News sent a letter to Wallace’s representatives detailing the allegations we heard from thirteen people over a period of seventeen years.

One of them was broadcaster Kirsty Wark, a Celebrity MasterChef contestant in 2011, who said he told “sexualised” jokes during filming.

Since then, more and more people have come forward with accusations about the presenter.

On Saturday night, Wallace posted a message on Instagram that read, “We are all different.”

His lawyers have said it is completely false that he engaged in conduct of a sexually harassing nature.

The BBC said it has “robust processes” in place to deal with issues if they arise.

Earlier on Saturday, MasterChef producers announced that they have appointed a ‘rigorous’ law firm to lead an investigation into Wallace’s alleged misconduct.

Speaking about the appointment of London law firm Lewis Silkin, a spokesperson for Banijay UK said it was a “highly experienced specialist investigations team overseeing a wide range of high-profile workplace investigations”.
