1 dead, 1 airlifted, teen seriously injured after head-on collision along Highway 24

LEXINGTON, Mo. (KCTV) – One man is dead when another driver was airlifted and a teenager was seriously injured in a head-on collision east of Lexington.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol indicates that on Friday, December 6, around 3:20 p.m., emergency services were called to the area of ​​Highway 24 and Plain View Ln., approximately 5 miles east of Lexington, for reports of a two-vehicle collision.

When first responders arrived, they said they found a 61-year-old Lexington man driving his 1992 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 west on the highway when he crossed the center line and struck a 2016 Ford F-150 driven by a 70 year old… old independence man frontal.

Investigators noted that the impact of the collision sent the Ford into the ditch on the north side of the road.

Emergency officials said the Lexington man, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 13-year-old passenger from Independence, who was wearing his seat belt, was taken to the hospital Centerpoint Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

State Troopers also indicated that the driver of the Ford, who was also wearing his seat belt, was airlifted to the University of Kansas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Both vehicles were totaled in the collision. No further information has been released.
