Delhi: A shocking incident of gun violence has once again rocked Delhi’s Shahdara area, where a businessman was shot dead while taking his morning walk on Saturday. Based on complaints from locals, a team from Farsh Bazaar police station rushed to the spot and shifted the victim to hospital. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries along the way. The deceased has been identified as Sunil Jain, a 52-year-old crockery shop owner.

Statement from the police on the matter

Shahdara DCP Prashant Gautam confirmed that a PCR call reporting the attack was received at 8.36am. “Two men on a motorcycle shot Sunil Jain multiple times and fled. He suffered 3-4 gunshot wounds and was declared dead. Jain was a 52-year-old businessman who owned a crockery shop. The family has denied any previous threats.” the DCP said. Police have launched an investigation to arrest the perpetrators and determine the motive behind the shooting.

AAP slams BJP over shooting incident

The shooting has sparked a political uproar, with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) criticizing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over law and order in Delhi. AAP leader and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took to social media platform X to accuse Home Minister Amit Shah of failing to ensure security in the capital. He wrote, “Amit Shah has destroyed Delhi and turned it into a jungle raj. People are living in constant fear. The BJP is unable to manage law and order in Delhi. Delhiites must unite and raise their voices.”

Delhi Chief Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj also expressed concern and said, “The crime capital Shahdara echoed with gunfire on the morning as tableware dealer Sunil Jain was ambushed while returning home on his scooter after a morning walk. Reports suggest that 6 up to 7 bullets were fired.

Investigation underway

Police are investigating the case from all angles, including personal enmity or business rivalry, and are working to identify the attackers. Further details about the investigation are awaited.
