Five dead, one injured after car plunges into lake in Telangana

At least five people were killed and one injured after a car plunged into a lake in the Indian state of Telangana on Saturday (December 7). They were traveling near Jalalapur village in Yadadri Bhongir district when the car went out of control and fell into the lake.

The victims were residents of LC Nagar area of ​​Hyderabad and were drunk during the accident. They reportedly left their homes at night and reached the village early in the morning to consume fresh toddy.

They have been identified as 23-year-old Vamsi, 21-year-old Dignesh, Harsha, Vinay, Manikanth and a 19-year-old boy named Balu. All were residents of Hyderabad, police told India Today.

“The bodies of the deceased will be handed over to their families after legal formalities. The investigation into the cause of the accident is still ongoing,” police said.

According to police, after receiving the information, they rushed to the accident site and shifted the injured person to the nearest hospital while the dead bodies were retrieved from the lake. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem. A video also emerged showing locals and police working together to get the car out of the lake.

Police said a case has been registered and the bodies will be distributed to families after legal formalities.

A day earlier, a similar incident took place when five people, including three family members, were killed after two motorcycles collided in the Gorakhpur district of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. 35-year-old Vikrant and his 20-year-old wife Nikita lost their lives along with their 5-year-old son Angad. Two babies, Laado and Pari, were also killed in the collision. They were returning home after a family celebration.
