‘The law and order situation in Delhi is in shambles, but…’: Arvind Kejriwal’s quip against Amit Shah after two murders in Delhi

Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday criticized Union Home Minister Amit Shah, blaming him for rising crime in the national capital. Kejriwal accused Shah of focusing on elections as Delhi struggles with rising lawlessness. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader’s comments came after two murders were reported in the city on the same day.

Speaking to India Today, Kejriwal said, “Law and order in Delhi is Amit Shah’s responsibility, but he remains busy with elections. Delhi is under the control of gangsters, and while the gunmen are arrested, the masterminds behind it are still at large.”

The Delhi Police comes under the jurisdiction of the Union Home Ministry, while Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP runs the city.

Kejriwal’s comments were in response to two recent killings: one in which a trader was shot by assailants on bikes during a morning walk in Shahdara in northeast Delhi, and another in which a man was fatally stabbed during a brawl in Govindpuri in South -Delhi.

“The law and order situation in Delhi is in shambles. This morning, Sunil Ji (Jain) was gunned down in Vishwas Nagar in broad daylight. How did criminals become so fearless?” Kejriwal asked.

The AAP chief said he personally knows several businessmen who are leaving Delhi over extortion calls.

“Women are unsafe in Delhi, cases of rape and murder are reported after rapes. Delhi Police is failing to protect the people of Delhi,” Kejriwal alleged.

Kejriwal further stated, “The voters in Delhi have entrusted us with the responsibility of repairing schools and hospitals. The only responsibility the voters gave to the BJP was law and order. Things have gone beyond their control.”

Delhi Chief Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj also accused the government of keeping residents, traders, women and the elderly living in constant fear. He highlighted ongoing problems such as gang wars, extortion threats and shootings over unpaid debts.

The 52-year-old utensils dealer, who was out for a morning walk, was shot dead in Shahdara by assailants who fired seven to eight shots at him. Meanwhile, in Govindpuri, a man was killed and two others injured during a brawl between two groups over the cleanliness of a shared toilet
