Juan Soto’s free-agent market appears to be escalating quickly, with multiple teams offering him a contract worth a total of around $700 million.

Per Jon Heyman of the New York PostIt is believed that the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays and New York Mets have all made offers for the four-time All-Star in the region of $700 million.

These are four of the five teams that have been frequently connected to Soto during the process. The Los Angeles Dodgers are the other, but their interest has always been there possibly about the possibility that his market might not be as important as he had hoped.

Since that clearly doesn’t appear to be the case, it’s safe to assume Soto’s final decision will come down to the four teams mentioned.

ESPNs Jorge Castillo noted that the Mets and Yankees likely have the edge over the other two clubs, with the Mets seen as a slight favorite because owner Steve Cohen is “determined” to sign him and will beat out any bid.

The Blue Jays are an intriguing wild card in this equation, as there is a “widespread belief” within MLB that they will come in with the highest offer for Soto, according to SNYs. Andy Martino.

It’s no surprise that the Blue Jays are extremely aggressive when there is a superstar player they are interested in. They came in with the the same offer against Shohei Ohtani, as the Los Angeles Dodgers did last offseason.

The Red Sox have hung around throughout the process. They seem like more of a dark candidate in the race, but if the money is right, there’s no reason they can’t make a compelling pitch for Soto.

Soto’s timeline for making a decision appears to be sometime next week as the winter meetings take place. At first it was believed that he could make a decision before the winter meetings, but now he has probably will come during the event held in Dallas from December 8 to 12.

Things have been pretty quiet so far in terms of position player signings this season, especially as teams wait to find out where Soto will play. There could be a huge wave of deals after he makes his decision.

Soto is coming off a 2024 season with the Yankees in which he finished third in the AL MVP voting. The 26-year-old hit .288/.419/.569 with a career-high 41 home runs in 157 games.
