Sterling woman charged with DWI after crash with fire truck in Red Creek

A Sterling woman is facing charges after crashing into a parked fire truck during a community event Saturday evening, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.

Jacqualine Gilfus, 58, of King Road, struck a Red Creek fire truck parked on the shoulder of Main Street in the Village of Red Creek around 6:41 p.m. The truck’s red emergency lights were activated for traffic control purposes when the crash occurred. .

Deputies conducted roadside sobriety tests and determined Gilfus was under the influence of drugs. She was arrested and taken to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office for processing and chemical testing.

Gilfus was issued multiple traffic citations, including charges for unsafe lane departure, failure to exercise due care in a stationary emergency vehicle, unreasonable and cautious speed, and operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs.

No injuries were reported in the crash. Gilfus will appear in Wolcott Town Court at a later date to answer the charges.
