Kentucky man charged with sexual abuse and mutilation of child at Nebraska camp

CASS COUNTY, Neb. (KOLN) – Authorities have arrested a Kentucky man after a Nebraska man told police about a series of sexual assaults that allegedly occurred nearly two decades ago.

Ronald Fleming, 60, was arrested Friday and booked into the Cass County Jail. He faces one count of first-degree sexual assault and two counts of third-degree sexual assault of a child.

An arrest warrant for him was signed on October 18 after a months-long investigation into reports of two sexual assaults in 2005.

A man in his 20s contacted the Cass County Sheriff’s Office on March 9 to report a late-night seizure. An investigator met with him a few days later to prepare a full report.

The man told authorities that he was sexually abused by Fleming several times between 2005 and 2007. He was between seven and nine years old at the time.

He described two incidents at a campground in Cass County in 2005, but told the investigator he had been attacked other times out of state, according to an arrest affidavit.

Authorities believe Fleming attacked the then-boy twice during a family trip to Camp of the Risen Son, now known as Camp of the Good Sheppard. In the second instance, investigators said Fleming mutilated the boy’s genitals before sexually assaulting him.

Fleming was arraigned in Cass County Court on Monday and his bond was set at 10% of $100,000. His next court hearing is scheduled for January 14.
