Two criminals associated with the Bhau gang were injured in an encounter with Rohtak

Two criminals were injured in an encounter with a joint team of Special Task Force (STF) Rohtak and CIA-1 branch of local police near Titoli bypass here on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday.

The duo also reportedly opened fire on police; two officers were hit, but luckily they were wearing bulletproof jackets. The injured – Jasbir from Fatehabad and Sahil from Kharkhoda (Sonepat) – have been admitted to PGIMS Rohtak for treatment, the sources said.

“During the preliminary investigation, their connection with the infamous Bhau gang was established. Two firearms have been recovered from their possession,” a police officer said on condition of anonymity.

It was the second encounter of the local police with the miscreants in the past week and the STF Rohtak played a crucial role in nabbing the gangsters both times. Earlier, a gangster from UP died after the police encounter and two others with criminal records were arrested.

Sources said the STF Rohtak was focusing on nabbing the members of various gangs, including Bhau and Nandu, active in the region and had also achieved success in its campaign.

“Based on a tip-off, a joint team of the STF and CIA-1 nabbed the suspect while he was roaming on a motorcycle near the Titoli bypass. They were asked to surrender but they did not and resorted to shooting at the police. The bullets hit two officers wearing bulletproof jackets. The police retaliated in self-defense. Jasbir and Sahil were injured in the crossfire. They were admitted to PGIMS for treatment,” said a police officer.

Sources said police are investigating whether they had a role in the murder of Jhajjar-based financier Manjeet, who was gunned down by unknown assailants during a wedding ceremony in Kiloi village two days ago. Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarniya could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.
