A Minot teen who seriously injured another teen driver in January when he drove the wrong way on U.S. Highway 2 has been sentenced in North Central District Court to two years in prison and six months of a five-year sentence.

James Eric Feeley, 19, Minot, appeared for sentencing Friday before District Judge Douglas Mattson after entering a change of plea for guilty pleas to one class C misdemeanor count of criminal vehicular injury and two misdemeanor counts of possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.

Feeley’s guilty plea was an open plea with no plea agreement, and Mattson sentenced Feeley to serve five years in the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, with half of the sentence suspended pending his completion of three years of supervised probation. Feeley was given credit for the 86 days he had already served and was assessed $625 in court fines and fees.

Feeley was arrested and charged the night of Jan. 31 when he crashed his 1996 Ford Explorer into a vehicle driven by Tyanna Weeks, 18, Minot, while driving the wrong way in the eastbound lane of Highway 2.

According to court documents, responding officers observed the odor of alcohol coming from Feeley, who admitted to driving and smoking THC wax before getting behind the wheel. Feeley’s blood alcohol content was 0.149, based on a blood sample collected by police.
