A 34-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh died by suicide at his residence in Bengaluru on Monday. Atul Subhash, who worked in a private company, left a 24-page suicide note accusing his wife and her relatives of harassment.

Initial investigations indicate that Subhash was facing marital problems and his wife had filed a case against him in Uttar Pradesh. Before taking the drastic step, he sent the suicide note to several people via email and shared it in a WhatsApp group associated with an NGO he was a part of.

According to police, Subhash put up a sign in his house that read ‘Justice is served’.

Before taking the extreme step, he allegedly taped important details to a cabinet, including information about his death note, car keys and a list of tasks he had completed and those still pending, the officer said.

What did Subhash say before committing suicide?

“My wife has registered nine cases against me. Six cases are in the lower court and three in the high court,” Sharma said in the video he recorded before taking this drastic step.

Sharma stated that one of the cases filed against him, his parents and his brother in 2022 includes allegations of murder, dowry harassment and unnatural sex. However, his wife later withdrew the case.

In another case, Subhash claimed that his wife admitted during cross-examination that the murder charge she had filed earlier, alleging that her father’s death was due to Sharma demanding a large sum of money from him, was false were. She clarified that her father passed away in 2019 after a long battle with chronic diseases, including diabetes.

Sharma also alleged that his wife demanded a monthly maintenance of Rs 2 lakh for herself and their son.

According to Sharma, his wife had initially filed a domestic violence case against him, which she later withdrew. However, she subsequently filed a new case against him for domestic violence. She has also filed two requests to expedite proceedings in several cases filed against him.
