Saathiya’s Kokila, Rupal Patel, on her viral AI video: I’m shocked | Exclusive

Fans of the popular TV show Saath Nibhana Saathiya were taken aback when a video showing Rupal Patel’s remarkable transformation went viral on social media. The actor, who played the iconic character Kokila, looked younger, slimmer and more glamorous than her usual self. Reacting to the video, which has been viewed nearly 10 million times, Rupal expressed her surprise. “I’m not on any social media platforms. I’m just shocked to see this,” she said India digital today.

The viral video featured multiple clips of women with Rupal’s face on them. Although she was surprised by the trend, she remained unfazed by it. “But I’m not afraid of this blowing up. I understand that there are memes and dialogues edited with AI. It’s definitely a big challenge, but I also feel like our audience is smart enough to know what’s real and what not. They really love and respect us and won’t be fooled by an AI version. Yes, there may be a certain section that might not see the difference, but I’m sure they’ll get through it too ,” she said.

Rupal also spoke about the increasing use of artificial intelligence and deep fakes, which are increasingly causing concern among celebrities. She noted that since AI is still a relatively new concept in India, people are yet to fully understand its functionality.

“These growing pains are bound to happen. It takes time to understand how to use such technology for the betterment of society. I also feel that as actors we can use this to connect with a wider audience. For example, there are moments when we want to communicate with fans who may not know our language. Through AI we can easily translate and communicate with them. There are many more advantages than disadvantages, to be honest,” she said.

The Saathiya actor also stressed the need for caution while using the likeness of a public figure even for entertainment purposes.

“I feel like they can always ask permission or keep us in confidence when they use AI in this way. Also use the technology in a positive way, to make people laugh or just entertain them. I have good hope my face is not used for unethical things.” Apart from that, we have seen technology and social media evolve over time, and I think we will slowly find our own pace,” said Rupal.
