Thai teacher gets 111 years in prison for sexually abusing hundreds of children

A teacher at a Bangkok school has been sentenced by the Phitsanulok court to 111 years and 216 months in prison in a case involving the grooming and sexual abuse of an underage boy, the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) announced on December 9.

The teacher was also ordered to pay 1.5 million baht (S$59,685) in damages to the boy and 650,000 baht to his mother for the crime he committed while teaching at a school in Phitsanulok province.

Tee, 32, whose surname has been withheld due to a gag order, was arrested on June 24 as part of the DSI’s investigation into a Pathum Thani modeling agency suspected of grooming and sexually abusing children.

Nene Modeling agency owner Danudet Saengkaew, 28, confessed to the crime early this year after police found more than 500,000 images of sexually abused children in his possession.

He was found guilty of more than 60 offenses and sentenced on February 11 to 121 years and 223 months in prison. Danudet was also ordered to pay 2.1 million baht in compensation to eight victims identified by the DSI from the photos.

The DSI investigation revealed that Danudet and Tee had worked together in the care of children. Tee admitted to sexually abusing children in various places at the school, including in his car, toilets and the audiovisual room. There are indications that the two could have sexually abused more than 1,000 victims, the DSI said.

The department is working to identify other victims in the photos to ensure justice for those abused. THE NATION/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
