Syria to dismantle security forces and repeal counter-terrorism laws – opposition – World

RABAT, December 10. /TASS/. The Syrian security services that operated under Bashar Assad will be dismantled and anti-terrorism laws overturned, a source in the political leadership of the Syrian opposition that established control over Damascus and many other cities in the country late last week said. “(Syrian) security services will be dismantled and counter-terrorism laws will be repealed,” the source said.

He added that the opposition “will study the condition of the current Syrian army and then consider the possibility of reforming it.”

On November 27, Syria’s armed opposition launched a large-scale offensive on government forces’ positions in Aleppo and Idlib provinces. By the evening of December 7, President Bashar Assad’s opponents had captured several major cities, including Aleppo, Hama, Daraa and Homs. On December 8, they entered the Syrian capital Damascus, while the army withdrew from the city.

Syrian Prime Minister Mohammad Ghazi al-Jalali expressed his willingness to peacefully transfer power in the republic. The Russian Foreign Ministry said Assad had resigned and left the country after giving instructions for the peaceful transfer of power.
