Mass kidnappings in Nigeria: More than 50 women and children abducted in Kakin Dawa

In a distressing development, more than fifty women and children have been kidnapped by a gang of armed men during a raid on Kakin Dawa village in Nigeria’s northwestern Zamfara state. The incident highlights the lawlessness that is widespread in the region, where kidnappings for ransom are alarmingly common.

Zamfara police confirmed that the attack took place on Sunday, prompting the deployment of additional security forces. Witnesses reported that dozens of attackers entered the village around noon, armed with assault rifles and targeting residents in a door-to-door kidnapping.

Hassan Ya’u, a resident who managed to evade capture, stated: “We later found out that they had kidnapped more than fifty women, including married women and girls.” The community is now eagerly awaiting the kidnappers’ demands, and calls are growing for government intervention to quell the banditry.
