A bricklayer, K. Mangaiyan, 46, was found murdered at a secluded spot in Palayampatti, near Aruppukottai, on Tuesday morning.

Police said local people saw smoke coming from the bushes and when they got closer, they found the body of a burning man. After being alerted, a police team led by Assistant Superintendent of Police S. Madhivanan rushed to the spot.

Police found blood stains around the spot. Though the body was charred beyond recognition, police during investigation found it to be that of Mangaiyan of North Street in Palayampatti. The motive behind the murder and the identity of the attackers were being investigated by the Aruppukottai Town police.
