Tourism officials remain silent on the reported dismissal of the Miss BVI Pageant Committee

Tourism director Clive McCoy

Tourism officials responsible for overseeing the Virgin Islands Festival & Fairs Committee have declined to comment on reports that tourism director Clive McCoy has dismissed the Miss BVI Pageant Committee.

These reports come amid continued public dissatisfaction with the committee’s handling of the July 2024 Miss BVI pageant. After the event, the committee issued an apology to customers who purchased VIP tickets, acknowledging their concerns about the experience provided.

Our news outlet contacted Director of Tourism Clive McCoy and Secretary of State for Tourism Luce Hodge-Smith to shed some light on the reports. Both declined to comment, with Hodge-Smith noting the matter would be discussed at a meeting scheduled for Thursday, December 12. She said an official statement would follow afterwards.

During the parade, held at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex, some attendees paid up to $160 for VIP seats in the front seat. Customers later took to social media to express their frustration at not getting food and feeling like they weren’t getting their money’s worth.

Months ago, the government made the controversial decision to relocate the Virgin Islands Festival and Fairs Committee and transfer its functions to the BVI Tourist Board.
