‘DIE! DIE! DIE!’ Man accused of fatally stabbing a man with a barbecue fork after attacking his mother

An arrest report detailing the arrest of a man was released on Tuesday fatally stabbing a man several times with a barbecue fork in Riviera Beach.

The Riviera Beach Police Department (RBPD) said 29-year-old Roosevelt Loray Johnson was arrested on a charge of first-degree murder after he allegedly stabbed a man multiple times with a barbecue fork Monday evening in Riviera Beach.

When officers responded to the first scene, which is detailed in the affidavit, they found a Hispanic man – also referred to as “John Doe” – who had been stabbed multiple times and was receiving help from bystanders. Johnson was identified as the suspect and detained at a nearby bus stop, where he was found with blood on his hands and blood on both tines of the fork, according to the arrest affidavit.

The confrontation began when Johnson allegedly tried to stab his mother with a barbecue fork, but was unsuccessful. His mother told police that Johnson swung overhand to stab her, but her sweater got caught or tangled in the BBQ fork, and Johnson pulled away as if he had missed.

The affidavit continued and Johnson then turned his attention to his cousin, who managed to barricade himself in a bathroom.

Johnson then left the apartment and attacked “John Doe,” the first person he encountered, stabbing him multiple times, the arrest report said. The victim was rushed to St. Mary’s Medical Center, but he was pronounced dead from his injuries.

Several witnesses have given statements corroborating Johnson’s actions. A witness driving south on Broadway Avenue said she saw Johnson make multiple stabbing motions into the victim’s body. She identified Johnson as the attacker and noted that he walked across the street to a bus stop, where he sat and smoked a cigarette.

A second witness also reported seeing Johnson stab the victim several times before walking to the bus stop. A third witness, a front seat passenger in a vehicle, told police she saw Johnson stab the victim in the head and neck area while shouting, “Die! Die! Die!” She noted that Johnson calmly walked away after the attack.

During a Mirandized interview, Johnson allegedly told investigators he used a fork to stab the victim. He asked, “Is the little Guatemalan dead?” and said, “I just hit him. I just started hitting him. He was just riding his bike and drinking his beer.”

Johnson faces first-degree murder charges for the fatal stabbing of “John Doe” and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for the attempted attack on his mother. He was processed and transported to the Palm Beach County Jail.
