A Cape Coral woman is facing drunken driving charges after she seriously injured a pedestrian walking along the road

A Cape Coral woman is facing charges after authorities say she turned right and struck a pedestrian walking in the roadside bike path.

Robin Marie Nicholson, 56, is charged with driving under the influence causing serious bodily injury.

Just before 8 p.m. Monday, Cape Coral police officers responded to a traffic collision near the 1300 block of Beach Parkway involving a red Ford Escape driven by Nicholson.

According to authorities, Nicholson veered to the right and struck a pedestrian while walking in the bike path along the road.

According to police, witnesses identified Nicholson as the driver and confirmed her involvement in the crash.

When officers arrived, they noticed signs of impairment in Nicholson, according to police. Based on her performance on field sobriety tests and other indicators of impairment, Nicholson was arrested for driving under the influence.

Police said Nicholson was transported to the hospital, where breath test results showed her blood alcohol content was 0.118%. The legal limit of 0.08%.

Nicholson’s arraignment is scheduled for January 13.
