Are Opponents Terrified of Raiders Rookie Bowers?

The Las Vegas Raiders had an apparent generational divide in their fold during the most recent NFL Draft. Raiders’ rookie tight end Brock Bowers is everything he expected to be.

Bowers has set numerous historic records in the National Football League in just under an entire season. Bowers seems to be playing every week and has emerged as the team’s No. 1 since the departure of Davante Adams.

Bowers’ success naturally caught the attention of defensive coordinators around the league, especially those still on the Raiders’ schedule. On Sunday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers built their defensive game plan around stopping Bowers, and they were successful.

Tampa Bay held Bowers to 49 receiving yards on three catches, and he was targeted only five times during the game. Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce noticed the differences how teams defend Bowers since he came on the scene.

“Yes, me and Scott (Turner) spoke About that this morning, just finding different ways to move him, put him in different positions,” Pierce said. “He’s clearly becoming a key factor for us now, but also a key factor for teams to stop. And we never go into a game without thinking about it throwing to Brock (Bowers)let’s get that out there first and foremost. He is our number one option and probably our last option.

‘We’re going to experience that. But you have to be smart with the ball, and we can’t force throws because that’s what happened in the game. We forced the throw and we got interceptions. So we have to be smart about that. But again, we’re a more efficient offense when we get Brock (Bowers) going. And it was clearly a big day for Big Mike (Michael Mayer). It was good to see him go. So again, the way the game shapes up each week will change, and you go into it with one plan and
it creates opportunities for other playersand those guys have to go a step further too.”

The Raiders must continue to find ways to do that use Bowers weeklywhile teams will continue to look for ways to stop him.
