Driver identified in crash that killed a Palm Beach County teacher in Wellington

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) has located the driver and truck involved in a an accident in the early morning in Wellington, which took the lives of a mother and a longtime Palm Beach County teacher.

PBSO detectives stated they are speaking with the driver for investigative purposes.

The information revealed shows that the car involved was a commercial truck carrying three people, including the driver, from Virginia.

In a crash report from PBSO at about 5:41 a.m. Monday, Toshimi Janiga, 62, was walking southbound at a crosswalk at South Club Drive and Aero Club Drive when a driver heading eastbound on South Club Drive began turning left on Aero Club Drijfveer .

As the vehicle turned, it struck Janiga, knocking her into the roadway.

The vehicle continued to turn and ran over Janiga with its rear tire before leaving the scene, according to PBSO. Janiga was pronounced dead at the scene by the Palm Beach County Fire Department.
