Sakamoto Days Puzzle Game is an upcoming Japan-only release based on the anime

  • Sakamoto Days is a highly anticipated anime coming out soon
  • It’s also getting its own mobile game around the same time of launch
  • Combining combat, character collection and match-three, it’s an eclectic mix of content

If you follow anime news, you might be aware of the upcoming release of the Sakamoto Days anime on Netflix by now. This cult hit series also gets its own mobile game in the form of Sakamoto Days Dangerous Puzzle, according to the anime-crazy folks at Crunchyroll.

Even if you’re not a fan of anime, Sakamoto Days Dangerous Puzzle seems to be packed with content. Featuring not only match-three gameplay, but also shopping simulation (which ties into the series’ plot), combat mechanics, and the ability to recruit a variety of characters from the series.

Sakamoto Days itself focused on the titular Sakamoto, a retired hitman who left a life of crime to start a family, and now works as a 9-to-5 regular at a convenience store. The underworld isn’t exactly something to run away from, however, and together with his new partner Shin, Sakamoto shows that getting a little out of shape hasn’t diminished his almost superhuman skills.

Sakamoto Days is one of those rare series that has developed a bit of a cult following prior to an actual anime release. So it’s very interesting to see that even before release, it’s getting a mobile release too! In fact, this looks to be quite an eclectic mix of both more familiar fare, like character collecting and combat, alongside something a little more suited to a wider audience, like match-3 puzzles.

It also raises a very interesting question about how Japanese anime and manga intertwine with mobile, especially considering that some major multimedia franchises like Uma Musume got their start on smartphones.
