Netflix Christmas film mocks the nativity scene and jokes about aborting baby Jesus

Netflix’s latest offering, “That Christmas,” an animated Christmas movie aimed at families, makes a mockery of the Christmas story in one scene and is drawing a lot of attention.

When Bernadette introduces the program, she describes Jesus as “a cool guy” with a beard and long hair and “crazy about woodwork,” and actually calls him “a hipster.”

As the program unfolds, viewers see the shepherds herding vegetables instead of sheep, and the wise men of the scriptural story are replaced by three wise women.

The most egregious part The bulk of the production, however, comes when the young girl playing the role of Mary, the mother of Jesus, sings “Papa Don’t Preach,” a 1986 song by Madonna about deciding whether or not to have an abortion undergo. The girl sings while hoisting a watermelon with a face carved into it, meant to represent the baby Jesus. At one point, another student accidentally knocks the watermelon out of the girl’s hands, causing it to fall to the ground and splash onto the audience.
