Hong Kong MTR passenger arrested for alleged assault after a station worker was kicked

Hong Kong police have arrested a man for allegedly attacking two people at a train station, including a 59-year-old staff member who broke a right rib after intervening in the situation.

A police source said on Tuesday that the 46-year-old man, who was suffering from depression and had follow-up hospital appointments, experienced cramps while sitting on the platform of the Sham Shui Po MTR station.

Another male passenger tried to help but was kicked five or six times and violently pushed away.

“The man then continued to walk in and out of the train car onto the platform, which prevented the train doors from closing,” the insider said. “The incident caused a 10-minute delay in train service.”

The source added the female MTR company An employee tried to get the man to stop, but she was splashed with soda and kicked, causing a fracture.

An off-duty police officer and firefighter witnessed the incident and subdued the man who was later arrested, the insider said.
