EPD officer injured in serious crash in Newburgh

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – The Evansville Police Department has announced that an EPD officer has been involved in a life-threatening crash.

Officials say the off-duty police officer was at the crash in Newburgh this morning.

FOP Lodge #73 posted on their Facebook that the officer is “experiencing a serious medical condition.”

They say the officer is receiving medical treatment and is being closely monitored.

According to EPD, they ask for privacy for the officer and his family.

“Our chiefs have been with this officer and his family all day and really just prayed for the best,” said EPD Officer Taylor Merriss. “And that’s all we can do now is pray that operations go well and that we still have an officer in the end.”

As we have reportedThe crash happened around 8:45 a.m. in the westbound lanes of State Road 66 at Sharon Road.

Authorities say the crash involved three vehicles where the drivers attempted to beat a yellow light and t-bone.

The sheriff says a truck struck a black sedan and the car was crushed between the truck and a pole.
