Cities are considering applying for a RAISE grant for a trail

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – Several Region 8 cities are seeking funds that will go toward a future regional trail.

The cities of Jonesboro, Brookland and Paragould will consider applying for the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity Grant.

Jonesboro will lead the project in partnership with Paragould and Brookland.

The Jonesboro Finance Administration Council filed a resolution on Tuesday, Dec. 10 to apply for the grant. Paragould City Council voted the previous day to support the application process.

“These entities agree to form a partnership, officially known as the Red Wolf Ridgeway Partners,” the resolution said. “The Red Wolf Ridgeway Partners is seeking funding for the planning and design of the Red Wolf Ridgeway Active Transportation Project.”

The city of Jonesboro is requesting up to $5 million to help design the project and conduct analysis.

“The Red Wolf Ridgeway will work to connect areas of persistent poverty to employment centers, educational institutions, health care facilities, city parks and other city services, while working to increase connectivity in the overall Northeast Arkansas region,” the resolution said.

The City of Jonesboro manages the funds, receives all invoices for work performed on the project and is responsible for payments.

The resolution will be discussed at the next Jonesboro City Council meeting on Tuesday, December 17.

In the past, cities tried to do that each obtain $25 million in grant funding help with transport problems, but they were unsuccessful.
