In a dramatic incident, a man in the United States drove his car through the front of a dealership hours after purchasing it due to a dispute over the vehicle’s return policy. The incident occurred in Sandy, Utah, after the man was told he could not return the vehicle “as is.”

Michael Murray, 35, had purchased a $4,000 Subaru Outback from the Tim Dahle Mazda dealership on Monday, according to police. However, he later discovered mechanical problems with the car and immediately demanded a full refund, describing the vehicle as a “lemon”.

The Mazda dealer denied Murray’s request for a full refund, citing the “as is” terms of the returns policy, which further infuriated him and he threatened to drive his car through the front door. “The finance manager said, ‘Hey, I can’t calm down.’ This guy is on his way to the car. He threatens to do this. We gathered everyone at the dealership to clear the area,” said Tyler Slade, the dealership’s rig manager.

After 4 p.m., Murray made good on his promise and rammed the car through the front door of the membership meeting. Luckily there was no one at reception as the employee was not working that day. “Just a hit and boom. It sounded like this big TV monitor was collapsing,” Slade said.

Murray was quickly arrested after the incident and is charged with criminal mischief and reckless endangerment. “Almost 30 years (in this industry) I have never seen anything like this. Very concerned about this individual and the emotional state he was in,” Slade said. The dealership suffered an estimated $10,000 in damage.

Aylin Hernandez, an employee at the dealership, said she was relieved she was not at work the day of the incident. What would have happened? Who knows – it could have been fatal. He came back, but with anger… without thinking, he just acted in anger,” she said.
