While all three Spidermen, namely Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland, are extremely popular for their respective portrayals of the superhero, there is one of them that fans still want to see more of. Garfield, who returned to the beloved role alongside Maguire in Spiderman: No Way Home, had quite a unique experience returning to his roots.

The 41-year-old opened up about what playing Spiderman in the Tom Holland and Zendaya-starrer film is like. He also mentioned the aftereffects of the cancellation of his The AmSpider-Maner Man franchise. For the unversed, the films were supposed to be followed by two more films and spin-offs, which ultimately didn’t happen. Here’s what the Tick.Tick..Starm star announced about his return and the impact of the cancellation decision.

During his Actors on Actors conversation with Ryan Reynolds, Garfield talked about what it felt like to return to the role of Spiderman. The two exchanged jokes, shared laughs and talked about serious topics. The first asked him if he missed playing the character and his experience returning to it. Garfield said it was “just lovely.”

He added that it wasn’t that he missed it, but it felt unpleasant. “It was just really satisfying,” Garfield said, explaining, “It’s like being invited to a part and then the party ends a little earlier than you wanted.” The Academy Award nominee stated that the process was akin to accepting “not being invited to this party.”

“And that’s when the work happens, right?” he mused, adding that it led to him having to deal with his relationships and thought processes regarding feelings like perception, validation, inclusion and disclosure. “It’s all internal stuff,” he noted, saying it has nothing to do with the outside. He added that dealing with the cancellation felt like soul work.

Garfield concluded by saying that he felt like “this person, this character means so damn much” to him. He played both Peter Parker and Spider-Man Man in his film duology. Emma Stone starred alongside him in the films as Gwen Stacy. The two also dated offsc,re, but despite the relationship, they remain very good friends and speak highly of each other every chance they get.

Ryan Reynolds said Andrew Garfield stole the show in Spiderman: No Way Home

After the heart-to-heart, Reynolds joked that Garfield stole the show. “To be honest, you kind of stole the movie,” he said. An amused Garfield responded, “Oh, shut up.” But Reynolds kept saying, “And if I were Tom (Holland), I’d be mad.” The Emmy-nominated actor laughed: “Stop it!” Reynolds ended the banter by saying, “Tom Stoppard.”
