Gujarat lawyer caught taking bribe of Rs 20 lakh from farmer for favorable order in land cases

The Gujarat Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested Rajendra Gadhvi, a government lawyer at the Kathlal Civil Court in Kheda district, while taking a bribe of Rs 20 lakh. The lawyer had demanded Rs 50 lakh to obtain a favorable court order in a land dispute case worth crores involving a farmer.

Along with Gadhvi, a practicing Metro Court lawyer, Suresh Patel, and a middleman, Vishal Patel, were also arrested for their involvement in the bribery.

The land dispute dates back to 2019, when the farmer bought land worth crores but faced legal issues over its ownership. In an attempt to tilt the case in the farmer’s favour, Gadhvi reportedly demanded Rs 50 lakh – Rs 20 lakh upfront and the remaining Rs 30 lakh after the order was issued. The farmer, who did not want to pay the bribe, reported the matter to Gujarat ACB. Following the complaint, ACB laid a trap and caught the suspect red-handed while accepting the first payment.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DYSP), GV Padheria, the farmer was instructed to hand over the Rs 20 lakh to Suresh Patel and Vishal Patel, who were middlemen for Gadhvi. The ACB team arrested the two middlemen while they were receiving the money and then arrested Gadhvi nearby.

ACB officials have initiated a thorough investigation and conducted searches at the residences of the suspects. Authorities suspect Gadhvi may have taken bribes in other cases as well.
