Trio caught running £1.5m cannabis farm in abandoned industrial unit in Telford are locked up

The three men were found in a building that had been repurposed for the illegal production of the drug, with 14 rooms filled with cannabis plants – and incredibly, a second floor was added to the unit to fit more.

The details were revealed during a sentencing hearing on Shrewsbury Crown Court, where Emiljano Xhafa, Ramadan Kapaj and Genti Binjaku all admitted one charge of involvement in the production of a class B drug.

The three were discovered when police raided the abandoned unit at Hortonwood Telford on November 8.

They were caught trying to escape through a back door, with one of them using a crowbar.

Judge Anthony Lowe was told various details about how the men ended up in the unit; one had come to Britain on a rubber boat looking for work, only to be sent to the British Army. Telford by a gang that grows the drugs.

Lawyers representing all three men said they wanted to return home to Albania as soon as possible.
