Stephen Holt keys Ginebra breakout, cools down NLEX

MANILA, Philippines — Stephen Holt sparked Barangay Ginebra’s debilitating third-quarter onslaught as the Gin Kings ambushed the NLEX Road Warriors, 109-100, to kick off their title bid in high gear in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Wednesday at Ninoy Aquino Stadium .

Holt scored 20 points in the third canto, where Ginebra defeated NLEX 36-23 to take control of the match for good.

The Gin Kings entered the final quarter with a 78-66, a lead they managed to maintain as the Road Warriors saw their three-game win streak come to an end.

NLEX fell to 3-2.

The win marked a triumphant debut for newly acquired forward Troy Rosario, who contributed nine points, seven rebounds and three assists for Ginebra.

Justin Brownlee had 24 points and 12 rebounds, Japeth Aguilar scored 15, while Maverick Ahanmisi had 13 for Ginebra, who shot 13 of 21 from the three-point zone to beat NLEX 51-41.

Import Mike Watkins led NLEX with 27 points and 21 rebounds, while Robert Bolick, who is coming off a pair of 30-plus point performances, had 18 on just 4 of 12 shooting.
