Mumbai DEAR Accident: Was it a ‘deliberate’ act by Sanjay More? This is what the police said

Mumbai BEST Accident: Amid the ongoing investigation into the Kurla accident case, Mumbai Police on Tuesday sought custody of the driver of the electric bus – operated by civil society Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST), which led to the death of seven persons, and injured 42 others on December 10.

Reportedly, Mumbai Police suspect that the driver, Sanjay More, ‘deliberately’ attacked the people using the bus as a ‘weapon’. A magistrate has now ruled that More would remain in the custody of the Mumbai Police till December 21.

Mumbai Police has produced Sanjay More before a magistrate court. Although the driver’s attorney made the argument Kurla The accident occurred due to a ‘technical defect’, according to several eyewitnesses IANS claimed the driver was “laughing and enjoying his death drive.”

BEST Mumbai Accident: More Details Emerging

Reportedly, Sanjay More had no experience driving electric vehicles and had only completed a ten-day training course in driving electric vehicles.

The Mumbai Police told the magistrate that the Kurla accident case was serious and needed a deeper investigation to determine whether it was a conspiracy by Sanjay More. The police also told the court that it was essential to investigate whether the BEST bus driver had proper training to drive the bus and whether he was under the influence of narcotics at the time of the accident.

Accident caused by ‘human error’

According to initial studies conducted by Wadala RTO (Regional Transport Office), the accident was the result of ‘human error’.

“If a driver has no experience driving a bus with an automatic transmission, he will initially not gain a good understanding of acceleration and braking. Therefore, it appears that human error caused the accident,” said vehicle inspector Bharat Jadhav PTI.

The official added that the driver seemed inexperienced in handling the automatic transmission bus, which does not have a clutch and gear like traditional buses.
