A Worcester woman says her symptoms of endometriosis were not being taken seriously

Ms Shutler’s complaints were so bad that she left a successful career with the Ministry of Defense because she found it difficult to sit at a desk for long periods of time.

She now works from home.

“It was very difficult to decide what things I can and cannot do with my life,” she said.

‘I don’t know if the pain is getting worse.

“It makes so many things uncertain, it’s sometimes very difficult to figure out how to live your life.”

Ms Brown said “medical misogyny” is part and parcel of the healthcare system.

“Women make up about 70% of chronic pain patients, but only 80% of pain medications have been tested (on women),” she said. “It was all tested on men.”

She calls on medical professionals to become better trained in women’s health.

“We need to start at a grassroots level and really educate people about women’s bodies,” she said.

“We are all fighting for people to take our pain seriously.”
