Police have found fingerprints of the man suspected of shooting dead a US health insurance boss, which match those found near the crime scene in New York, Sky News’ US partner NBC News reports.

Luigi Mangione has been charged with his murder Brian Thompson, CEO of UnitedHealthcarewho was shot dead in Manhattan last week.

But as prosecutors try to build a case against the alleged suspect, NBC News quoted an official close to the case as saying that investigators have found prints matching Mangione’s near the crime scene in New York.

It is not clear where the prints come from.

Police said the suspect had previously visited a Starbucks before the shooting and was then seen riding an e-bike as he cycled away from the crime scene.

Recently, Mangione’s attorney Thomas Dickey said, “Listen, I haven’t seen any evidence that says he’s the shooter.

‘These parasites expected it’

After a high-profile manhunt, Mangione was arrested following a tip from a McDonald’s employee and was found with a gun, mask and writings, police said, linking him to the ambush.

NBC News spoke with a customer who saw Mangione at the restaurant in Altoona, about 230 miles west of New York.

The man, who gave his name only as Larry, said his friend told him “that looks like the New York shooter,” adding that a backpack looked like the suspect’s.

Larry added, “I thought it was one of the employees, because they go back here during the break, and they put their hood up, and he was standing in the corner with his hood up.”

Mangione had three pages of writings on him when he was taken into custody, officials also told NBC News.

Those writings reportedly said “honestly, these parasites already expected it” and “I wasn’t working with anyone” amid broader criticism of the U.S. healthcare industry and major corporations, including UnitedHealthcare.

Pennsylvania prosecutor Peter Weeks said Mangione, who gave officers a fake ID, was found with a passport and $10,000 (£7,840) in cash, including $2,000 in foreign currency.

The Ivy League technology graduate Mangione’s alleged actions have catapulted him to online fame Etsy and eBay are among the websites that sell T-shirts and other products that reference him.

Some on social media have expressed sympathy and support for Mangione.

Support for him appears to stem from longstanding resentment of the U.S. health care system and accusations that companies like UnitedHealthcare are going to great lengths to avoid paying for treatments to maximize profits.
