Saskatoon police made the announcement Wednesday morning, but noted that the investigation into Derek Sarazin’s disappearance remains open.

Sarazin, 48, was last seen at his home on the afternoon of November 22 and was reported missing the next day. Police said Sarazin enjoyed walking along both the east and west banks of the river.

“As a result of the ongoing investigation, police believe it is possible that Derek may be in the South Saskatchewan River,” police said in a statement Monday. “Investigators do not believe there is any foul play in this investigation and there is no risk to public safety.”

At the time, police said the search — which stretched from the University Bridge past the Canadian Pacific Railway Bridge — could last several days due to the cold and icy conditions and the large area being searched.

Sarazin was described as 6 feet tall, weighing 220 pounds, with a medium build, brown eyes and short, brown/gray hair. He may be wearing a gray jacket with four snap pockets on the front.
