The mall was evacuated as smoke and fire came from the broken windows of the sports car.

At one point in the footage, a loud bang could be heard echoing through the parking lot as the flames intensified.

Another car was destroyed in the fire, which is believed to have been caused by a faulty petrol engine.

Emergency services rushed to the fourth floor of the Selfridges Moor Street car park and closed the building for an hour.

Two fire engines from the West Midlands Fire Brigade arrived at the scene at around 10.30am.

An eyewitness told it Birmingham live: “As I drove to the parking lot, I saw thick gray smoke covering most of the floor where the fire was located.

“I parked to see what was on fire and saw a few people approaching.”

A spokesperson for West Midlands Fire Service said: “Shortly before 10.20am on Monday we responded to Park Street, Birmingham.

“Two fire engines and a 4×4 brigade response vehicle from Highgate and Canley stations responded, the first arriving within three minutes of being mobilised.

“This was a car fire involving two vehicles on the fourth floor of the Selfridges and Moor Street car park.

“It was confirmed at around 10.50am that the fire had been extinguished with a hose reel by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus. Fire investigators are now attending.”

In an update, a fire brigade spokesperson added: “Faulty petrol car engine caused this fire.

“No suspicious circumstances or signs of arson.”
